I love having painted nails. I like the ritual of colouring my talons on a Sunday night before the working week begins. I hate it when the polish chips, goes dull and it takes me 4 days to locate my polish remover leaving my nails looking a hot mess for far too long. So this is why I love a gel manicure! If you haven't had one, you're missing out. Basically, your nails are dried under an magical ultra-violet light which somehow sets it diamond hard in seconds. You walk out with prefect dry nails that last up to 2 weeks. I normally get 7-10 days out of a gel manicure - that's 10 days of neat and tidy nails without having to do a damn thing! Perfect.
I came across Y.Wait on the UK Black Owned Businesses directory within the first few minutes of my search. As I scoped out the website I discovered that the salon was located in Walthamstow - a 15 min bus ride away and specialised in natural nails only (no extensions or acrylics) so I had to check it out.
I arrived early for my treatment was greeted by the lovely Kerrianne who went on to do my nails. She showed me to a seat and offered me a tea or coffee - which was joy to my ears as I was already kicking myself for not grabbing some caffeine enroute. As soon as I was presented with the cutest coffee set, I knew this wasn't going to be your regular nail appointment.
I explained that I was looking for an Olivia-Pope-Kinda-Nude, and within a minute, I had 6 gorgeous brown-beige-grey-tone nudes to choose from. Lets just say I was spoilt for choice and super pumped to have something other an pinky-peach to select from. Once my nails were done, I was treated to a lovely exfoliating treatment for my hands which was finished with a hot towel and a shea butter moisturiser.
In comparison to other places of been to - where you're in an out on a conveyor belt and no one even asks your name - this was an incredible experience. Y.Wait are offering somewhere to relax for a 45mins, have a lovely chat and feel a little bit pampered. Needless to say, I loved it. I'm already booked in for my next treatment.
