Spa With Ma
We are not spa people. I didn’t grow up having lunch dates with mum, or getting our nails done at the salon. You’d sooner find us in the kitchen with a cup of tea; waxing lyrical, singing lyrics to our favorite tunes and retuning the chords of our lives with realism and wisdom.
One of my 2019 goals and themes of this blog is to have a healthier mind. To take time to relax, learn, grow and be still. I’d planned to do at least one spa break this year, either alone or with my gal pals. I’ve done them before, but never with mum. So when a rare window of opportunity opened up for me to have my mama all to myself, I didn’t waste time looking at the view of what could be - we’ve been guilty of that before. I grabbed my queen by the hand and lept straight through.
We chose a one night stay at The Belfry Hotel and Spa near Sutton Coldfield. Booked through Secret Escapes, we got a pretty sweet deal at just £60pp. This gave us spa access, a 3-course dinner on the first night and full breakfast in the morning. We also got 20% of any treatments booked.
I know - and respect - that to some a spa might seem like an unnessecary indulgence; it certainly isn’t a silver bullet. Learning to relax and clear your mind should be a regular practice, and not just reserved for when someone hands you a fluffy robe. But, I really like that fluffy robe. I feel bougie walking around the scenic grounds in my slippers all day and indulgant in the fact that there is nothing to be ‘done’
Whilst my mum has a massage, I spent an hour in the tranquil room zoning out to the heady smells and getting lost in those euphonious spa sounds. That sort of thing just doesn’t feel the same at home.
Less than two months into the year, and I’ve ticked something of my list and got to spend some quality time with my mum in the process. It’s funny how the universe works things out for you.
Needless to say, we loved it. We might even be spa people now.
